Adiata Borresa Seini
University for Development Studies, School of Business
Tamale, Ghana
Adiata Borresa Seini is a PhD candidate at the University for Development Studies (UDS), where her doctoral research examines the complex dynamics of Human-AI collaboration within Higher Education Institutions in developing countries. Her research employs
Activity Theory as a theoretical framework to explore the contradictions that emerge when artificial intelligence systems are integrated into educational contexts in resource-constrained environments. She has published in the proceedings of AMCIS.
She has reviewed for AMCIS and JAIS. Also, she attended this year AMCIS 2025 in Montreal Canada.
1. Why did you originally join AIS, and what has kept you involved?
My journey into AIS began through the guidance of Prof. Ibrahim Osman Adam-my Phd Supervisor and mentor, whose forward-thinking approach and scholarly vision fundamentally transformed my perspective on the discipline. Under his mentorship,
I discovered the expansive global Information Systems research community and witnessed firsthand how academic inquiry can drive substantial real-world impact. What continues to fuel my active engagement with AIS is my deep commitment to
understand and ground myself very well in Information Systems. AIS has become far more than a professional association for me.
2. What's a recent professional accomplishment you're proud of?
I am deeply proud of receiving the AIS & Bocconi PhD Student Travel Grant, which enabled me to attend AMCIS in Montreal, Canada. This was more than just a conference attendance it was a dream realized. As a PhD student from a developing
country researching Human-AI collaboration in higher education, the opportunity to present my work at my first in-person AMCIS felt surreal and profoundly meaningful. Standing before that international audience in Montreal, sharing research
that emerges from my lived experience in Ghana’s educational landscape, was both humbling and empowering.
3. What's the best career advice you've ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received came from my supervisor, “Don’t be afraid to ask the questions that haven’t been asked before that’s where breakthrough research lives.”
4. What's a hidden talent, interesting hobby, or fun fact you'd like to share about yourself?
I’m completely obsessed with guitars despite not being able to play them! There’s something mesmerizing about watching guitarists create magic with their fingers, and I find myself endlessly fascinated by the craftsmanship of different guitar
models and the stories behind iconic instruments. Music in general serves as my sanctuary a space where I can process complex ideas and find creative inspiration that surprisingly often feeds back into my research thinking.
