23rd President of AIS: Matti Rossi

Professor Matti Rossi is a professor of information systems at Aalto University School of Business in Finland. He has been a part of the IS community for over 10 years. Professor Rossi received his PhD in Business Administration from the University of Jyväskylä. During this academic years, he worked as a visiting scholar at NYU Stern School of Business, a research fellow at Erasmus University Rotterdam, as a visiting assistant professor at Georgia State University, Atlanta, and a visiting researcher at Claremont Graduate University.

Professor Rossi has been a member of AIS since the early 2000s. From 2005-2007, he was on the Council for Europe/Africa/Middle East. He was the President Elect 2016-2017, President 2017-2018, and Immediate Past Present 2018-2019. During his time as the President of AIS, Professor Rossi oversaw ECIS joining as a regional conference for AIS, worked to deliver high-quality, easily accessible conferences, added resources/holding to the AIS eLibrary, reinforced the commitment to maintain a global academic association as the higher priority, and expanded access to new and innovative member services. Professor Rossi has always understood that the success of the IS community could not exist without the incredible efforts of AIS volunteers. In 2020, he was awarded the AIS Fellow Award. This award recognizes truly outstanding individuals in the information systems community.

His research can be found in MIS Quarterly, IEEE Software, Journal of AIS, Information and Organization, Information and Management, Information Systems, and more. Professor Rossi is an editor of the Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS), a senior editor at JAIS and the Database for Advances in Information Systems, and an associate editor for MIS Quarterly. He has conducted several research projects funded by the Technological Development Center of Finland and the Academy of Finland. He has been a part of numerous conferences including, ICIS, HICSS, and CAiSE. Professor Rossi was the Co-Chair for DESRIST 2007 and 2008, DESRIST 2013, ECIS 2011, IRIS 2004, an organizing committee member and technology chair for ICIS 1998, and minitrack chair for Hawaii International Conference on Systems Sciences 1998-2014.

Alongside his academic career, he has been involved in the development of two research prototypes and commercial products, the MetaEdit Personal and MetaEdit+ both sold by MetaCASE Consulting Plc., Jyväskylä, Finland.
