21st President of AIS: Jae Kyu LeeJae Kyu Lee is currently a Distinguished Professor at the School of Management and the Director of the Bright Internet Research Center at Xi’an Jiaotong University in China. In 2016, he received an honorary lifetime position as a Professor Emeritus at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. Professor Lee has an expansive and longstanding history within the IS community which began in 1973 when he finished his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering at Seoul National University. Following this, he received his Master of Science in Industrial Engineering in 1975 and began a Ph.D. program in Management Sciences from Clemson University in South Carolina, USA in 1981. Professor Lee received his Ph.D. from The Wharton School in Pennsylvania, USA in 1985 in Management of Information Systems from the Department of Decision Sciences. Professor Lee began his teaching career in 1977 at Keimyung University in Taegu, Korea. Since this position, he has taught at The Wharton School, USA, Eastern Illinois University, USA, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), University of Texas, USA, University of Hong Kong, Singapore Management University, Carnegie Mellon University, USA, Yonsei University, Korea, Southern University of Science and Technology, China, and Xi’an Jiaotong University, China. His current research interests are in the development and deployment of Bright Internet technologies, policies, and global collaborations. Previously, Professor Lee has researched the application of AI for Managerial Decision Support to Bright Internet for preventive cybersecurity. He has overseen 45 grant projects related to Bright Internet, Green Business, eCommerce strategies, SCM and eProcurement Systems, project management systems, and refinery. Professor Lee has been active with AIS for many years. He was an AIS Fellow and President in 2015-2016. In 2017, Professor Lee was the Conference Co-Chair for the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) and in 2019, was the Conference Co-Chair for the Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS). Professor Lee was selected for the AIS LEO Award in 2020 for being an outstanding scholar who has made a global impact on the field of IS. Alongside his work with AIS, Professor Lee has chaired numerous conferences in the field of IS throughout the world and on a variety of topics. Professor Lee was the founding editor-in-chief of the journal, Electronic Commerce Research and Applications (Elsevier, SSCI and SCIE Accredited), and was the founding chair of the International Conference on Electronic Commerce. He was the President of many academic societies such as the Korea Society of Management Information Systems and Korea Society of Intelligent Information Systems. He has authored 11 books, four in English and seven in Korean along with being published in many international journals such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, JAIS, EJIS, and more B.S.
