Volunteer for an Association Committee
The following committees are extensions of the association and require the work of AIS volunteers to keep their strategic goals moving forward. If you have an interest in serving on one of these committees, please complete the form below.
The AIS Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Standing Committee, established in 2018 as the Standing Committee on Diversity & Inclusion, has been reimagined in 2024 as an active catalyst for organizational transformation towards dignity, understanding, mutual respect, and inclusiveness within our global association community. The committee: - Serves as a pivotal force dedicated to driving tangible change, prioritizing diversity, inclusion, and belongingness initiatives, and championing an equitable experience for all AIS Members.
- Works to ensure inclusiveness and diversity is considered in all aspects of AIS operations including conferences, journals, awards, programs and services, and committee representation.
- Serves as a resource for program organizers, volunteer leadership, and the membership at large ensuring the association continues to broaden participation.
Time Commitment: • 4-6 hours per month. • Participate in online committee meetings (approximately once each quarter). The chair of this committee is Manju Ahuja, Vice President of DEI.
The Education Committee leads the development of AIS teaching tools for members of the association, advises the Vice President of Education in matters of pedagogy, and helps to confer awards on outstanding information systems instructors. The Committee: • Enables members of the AIS community to provide individuals, organizations, and societies with best possible value through high-quality programs, courses, and other educational experiences offered to diverse and inclusive audiences. • Brings all members of the AIS community engaged in education together to enable mutual learning through sharing of information, resources, and best practices. • Improves relevant stakeholder groups’ perception of the current and potential value of IS education. • Maintains and further improves the AIS education community’s role as an important partner in collaborative efforts with other relevant education communities. This Committee is Recommended for:
• Members who are actively engaged in teaching and/or developing pedagogical research and content. • Academic members who have a broad understanding of the structures, issues and best practices in information systems and its related interdisciplinary fields. • Members who would like to further develop their leadership skills and be recognized as an educational leader.
Time Commitment: • 4-6 hours per month. • Participate in online committee meetings (approximately once each quarter). The committee chair is Jan Marco Leimeister, VP of Education.
The AIS Membership Committee leads the development and execution of a strategic membership growth and development plan that results in increased member retention and recruitment as well as overall member satisfaction.
The Committee: • Identifies target groups for possible AIS membership and identifies ways to communicate with and recruit this group. • Identifies areas of member value for current members and potential members through an annual membership survey. • Makes program and service recommendations to Council based on survey and membership trend/stats analysis. • Implements member recognition programs that encourage members to renew their membership year over year.
This Committee is Recommended for: • Members who are interested in the further development of programs and services benefitting the overall membership. • Members from every membership type (academic, doctoral student, retired academic, and professional) who can provide insight into the membership perspective.
Time Commitment: • 1-2 hours per month interacting with newcomers. • Participate in occasional online meetings (typically two per year). The Membership Committee Chair is Isabel Ramos, Vice President of Member Services and Chapters.
The Vice President-Publications serves as the chair of the Publication Committee and determines the number of members of the Publications Committee and their terms of membership within the following guidelines: The Committee shall have at least five (5) members and shall include at least one member from each World Region. The terms of the members shall be staggered, as designated by the Vice President-Publications, to maintain continuity.
The Vice President-Publications shall recommend the members of the Publications Committee to the Council for approval. The Council, upon the recommendation of the Vice President-Publications, shall have the right to remove members from the Publications Committee.
The Committee: • Supports the association’s journals by recommending changes to publications-related policies. • Recommends editorial team members for all AIS publications. • Offers recommendations on the association’s portfolio of journals.
This Committee will benefit from academic members who: • Have a broad understanding of the structures, issues and best practices in information systems and its related interdisciplinary fields. • Can provide insight into the publisher’s perspective. • Have experience relevant journal leadership roles.
Time Commitment: • 2-3 hours per month. • Participate in occasional online meetings (typically two per year). Committee Chair is Chee-Wee Tan, VP of Publications.
The purpose of the AIS Communities Committee is to advise the VP of SIGs and Colleges and the VP of Member Services and Chapters with respect to strategic development of Chapters, Colleges, and SIG services.
The VP of SIGs and Colleges and the VP of Member Services and Chapters, as co-chairs of the Committee, determine the number of members of the Committee and their terms of membership. The co-chairs recommend the members of the Committee to the Council for approval and have the right to remove members from the committee as needed.
The Committee: • Supports leaders of prospective AIS Communities as they complete the application process. • Recommends potential AIS Communities to the council for approval. • Provides input on the programs and services provided to AIS Communities leadership. • Makes program and service recommendations to Council based on surveys and trend/stats analysis. This Committee is Recommended for: • Members who are well-versed in the many AIS Communities. • Members who are interested in the further development of the AIS Communities program. • Members from every membership type (academic, doctoral student, retired academic, and professional) who can provide insight into the membership perspective.
Time Commitment: - 1-1.5 hours per month.

The purpose of the Student Chapter Advisory Board is to advise the AVP of Student Chapters and Council with respect to strategic efforts of the student chapter initiative.
The AVP of Student Chapters determines the number of members of the Student Chapter Advisory Board and their terms of membership. The AVP Student Chapters shall recommend the members of the Student Chapter Advisory Board to the Council for approval. The AVP Student Chapters has the right to remove members from the board. The AVP Student Chapters shall serve as the chair of the Student Chapter Advisory Board.
The Committee: • Identify and develop areas of added value for current student chapters including the Student Chapter Leadership Conference and competitions. • Implements student chapter recognition programs to encourage chapters to renew their charters year over year. • Identify schools for possible new chapters
This Committee is Recommended for: • Members who are interested in the further development of programs and services specific to AIS Student Chapters program. • Academic members who currently serve as faculty advisors to active student chapters.
Time Commitment: • 2-3 hours per month. • Participate in occasional online meetings (typically four per year). • Participate in the annual Student Chapter Leadership Conference. Chair of the AIS Student Chapter Advisory Board is Gladys Simpson, Florida International University, AVP of Student Chapters.
