The Benefits of Submitting Conference Papers

Wednesday, February 3, 2021   (1 Comments)

As conference season ramps up, there are numerous benefits to authors of leveraging the conference to journal submission cycle of a paper.

As an author, submitting a paper to a conference first provides early feedback prior to submitting to a journal for final decision. Conferences provide multiple points of feedback, from peer reviews, to presentation questions, to post-event discussions that are generated through eLibrary proceedings.

Conferences also benefit from paper submissions by providing a forum for the global community to collaborate and discuss. Many times, this will provide early insights into new research streams, research methods and impact stemming from the global collaboration and the studies.

Journals can most definitely benefit from leveraging the conference to a journal submission cycle of a paper.  Because the peer review effort has already begun, this results in higher quality paper submissions to journals and saves time for editors and reviewers. This can also result in paper submissions that are a better fit with the journals’ mission and/ or the scope of special issues.

As a reminder, AIS never requires copyright on papers submitted to AIS conferences.  Yes, a high percentage of content overlap between a Conference paper and a Journal paper is normal and customary when it is the same research project & authors.
