Introducing the Paul Gray Presidential Gallery

The Paul Gray Presidential Gallery highlights the accomplishments of the association's presidents during their terms in office as well as their individual backgrounds.  Taken together, this gallery weaves together a picture of the history of the association since its founding in 1994.  This gallery was spearheaded by Paul Gray, who passed away on May 10, 2012.      

Gray was a founding member of the field of information systems.  He earned a bachelor's in Mathematics from New York University ('50), master's degrees in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan ('54) and Purdue University ('62), respectively, and a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Stanford University ('67).  After completing his education, he taught at Stanford, the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Southern California, Southern Methodist University, and finally at Claremont Graduate University (CGU).  His tireless work at CGU helped the IS program to grow tremendously, blossoming into what is now the School of Information Systems and Technology (SISAT).  Although Gray retired in May 2001, he continued to research, teach, and supervise doctoral students.

In addition to his aforementioned work, Gray was also pioneer and active member of AIS.  Gray was elected as an AIS Fellow in 1999, received the AIS LEO Award in 2002, and served as the editor-in-chief of the Communications of the Association for Information Systems (1999-2006).
