2024 AMCIS Outstanding Conference Service Leadership Award Recipients Announced

At AMCIS 2024 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the AIS Vice President of Conferences announced the following recipients of the AMCIS Outstanding Conference Service Leadership Award:

Marie-Claude (Maric) Boudreau

is an Associate Professor of MIS at the University of Georgia. She received a Ph.D. degree in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University. Her research focuses on how IT/S drives organizational change, the consequences of IT/S implementation, and the interaction between human agency and technology in organizational settings. Additionally, she has explored the role of IT/S in promoting environmental sustainability, often referred to as Green IS or Energy Informatics. Within that stream of work, she has engaged in many interdisciplinary collaborations and secured numerous grants. Maric’s scholarly work has been published in many journals, including Organization Science, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the AIS, and many conference proceedings.

Her external services include major roles such as conference co-chair for AMCIS 2021 and MALC 2022, and program co-chair for AMCIS 2025. She also held multiple other positions at conferences (e.g. track/mini-track co-chairs at AMCIS & ICIS, co-chair of ERF at AMCIS 2019, co-chair of Junior Faculty Consortium at AMCIS 2018) and she was a frequent panelist, mentor, or facilitator at conference events and consortia. She has supported AIS in multiple ways, including being a Treasurer for the College of Academic Leadership, for SIG Green, and for the Canadian Chapter of AIS, among other roles. For the ensemble of her services to AIS, she received the AIS Doctoral Student College’s Faculty Mentor Award and the AIS Sandra Slaughter Service Award.

 

Amy J. Connolly

is an Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems and Business Analytics in the College of Business at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. She holds a doctorate, M.S. and B.S. in Management Information Systems from University of South Florida.

She has been recognized multiple times for her service to AIS. She has served as the Secretary of the AMCIS Executive Committee, as well as in various leadership roles with AIS Women’s Network, Southern AIS, and SIG Social Inclusion. She has led the SIG Social Inclusion Track at AMCIS for the past two years, before which she served as a mini-track chair and reviewer. Her first AMCIS was in Detroit! She has also AE’ed and reviewed for ICIS and ECIS. She currently serves as the Vice President of ISCAP (IS & Computing Academic Professionals), which hosts an annual conference for IS educators every November.

Dr. Connolly’s current research projects investigate how IS can reduce burnout of healthcare professionals and how we can teach technical topics in an engaging way. Her research has been published in EJIS, CAIS, and JISE. Her work in EJIS was awarded the 2019 Stafford Beer Medal; her work in JISE was awarded 2021 Best Paper and 2022 Best Paper Honorable Mention.

She is grateful to numerous mentors and collaborators who have helped her along this journey, including Richard Johnson, Stacie Petter, Jaime Windeler, Monica Garfield, Monica Tremblay, Elizabeth Baker, Cynthia Beath, Daniel Rush, and Sam Zaza. Thank you for this honor.

 

Ashish Gupta

is a Globe Life Professor of Analytics and PhD program Coordinator within the Department of Business Analytics & Information Systems in Raymond J. Harbert College of Business at Auburn University with a courtesy appointment within the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at Samuel Gin College of Eng. at Auburn University. He had earlier established and served as the founding director for an Analytics Research Center. He has held joint or visiting appointments at the Mayo Clinic Rochester, Biomedical Informatics at the Arizona State University, and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. He has a Ph.D. in MSIS from the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University. At Auburn University, he has established and manages a data science cluster called Barracuda and a state-of-the-art Business Analytics Lab.

His research interests are artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, healthcare informatics, IoT, sports analytics, and organizational and individual performance. His recent articles have appeared in journals such as MIT Sloan Management Review, European Journal of Information Systems, Decision Sciences Journal, European Journal of Operations Research, Risk Analysis, Journal of American Medical Informatics Association, Journal of Biomedical Informatics, IEEE Transactions, Information Systems Journal, Decision Support Systems, Information Systems Frontiers, Communications of AIS, etc.  He has published five edited research books. Professor Gupta’s research has been supported by various grant agencies and several private organizations and has received numerous awards. His work has been supported by various funding agencies such as DOD, DHS, NHTSA, THEC, etc. His efforts have led to grants exceeding 4 million Dollars.

He serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education and on the editorial boards of journals such as Decision Support System, Journal of Business Analytics, and Information Systems Frontiers. Dr. Gupta has been invited to give keynote speeches and invited talks at conferences and national and international universities. In addition to being conference chair, track chair, and minitrack chair of numerous conferences, he currently serves as AVP for AIS AMCIS Conference systems. He will serve as Program co-chair for AMCIS 2025 in Montreal, Canada. He is a Cum Laude Distinguished AIS member. He has served as the President of the MWAIS Chapter and SIGDSA. He has served on the organizing committee of ICIS and AMCIS in various capacities.

 

Alexandre Reis Graeml

is a full professor at the Federal University of Technology in Curitiba, Brazil, where he contributes to the Graduate School of Business and the Applied Computing Graduate Program. He holds a Doctorate and a Master’s degree in Business Administration, specializing in Operations Management and Information Systems Management, from the Fundação Getulio Vargas in São Paulo. Additionally, he earned his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Technological Federal University of Paraná.

Graeml's international academic footprint includes being a Fulbright fellow and a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. He is also a visiting professor at the Ecole Supérieure d'Ingénieurs (Esigelec) in Rouen, France, where he teaches in the Business Information Systems Masters Programme.

His research interests are diverse, focusing primarily on collective intelligence, social computing, and the strategic alignment and adoption of information systems. He has extensively studied the impact of the internet on organizational structures, supply chain management, and the role of ethics in academia.

Graeml's leadership in academia is highlighted by his roles as chair and program chair of several prestigious Information Systems conferences. Notably, he co-founded the Information Systems in Latin America Conference (ISLA), which has evolved into a crucial platform for IS researchers across the region.  He is an active member of the Latin American and Caribbean Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (LACAIS) and served as its president from 2016 to 2020. Before that, he chaired the LACAIS Spanish and Portuguese track of the AMCIS Conference (2012-2013).

During the pandemic, Graeml conducted a series of interviews with major Information Systems researchers for the Research Seminars in Information Systems, a joint venture of several Latin American universities to promote IS as an appealing research field. These interviews are hosted on LACAISTube, the YouTube channel of LACAIS.

Looking ahead, Graeml is set to be one of the conference chairs for AMCIS 2027 in São Paulo, reflecting his ongoing commitment to advancing the field of Information Systems.

Throughout his career, Alexandre Reis Graeml has been committed to bridging the gap between technology and business, enhancing the understanding of information systems in various societal contexts.

 

Eleanor T. Loiacono

is the Henry & Phyllis Shook Term Professor of Business at the Raymond A. Mason School of Business, William & Mary, where she leads the Inclusive Design and Accessibility (IDEA) Hub. Her research delves into the dynamic interplay between technology and its users, focusing on enhancing user experiences through technological innovation.

For over two decades, Dr. Loiacono has explored the human-technology relationship, emphasizing how mobile applications and social media can enrich people's lives. Recognized as a thought leader in universal design, she examines how individuals with diverse abilities engage with technology. Her scholarship extends to diversity in the IT workforce, particularly the experiences of women in IT.

As the Principal Investigator for the $1 million National Science Foundation ADVANCE grant, “ImPACT: Increasing the Participation and Advancement of Women in Information Technology” (https://impactit.pages.wm.edu), she spearheads efforts to foster inclusivity in the tech sector.
