Dr. Susan A. (Sue) Brown has been appointed as the next Editor-in-Chief of MIS Quarterly effective January 1, 2024.
Dr. Brown joined the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona as an associate professor in 2005 after teaching at Indiana University for nine years. In 2017 she was appointed head of the Department of Management Information Systems at the Eller College of Management. She earned her Ph.D. in management information systems from the University of Minnesota.
Her primary research interests focus on the adoption and diffusion of information technology by organizations and individuals, including the overall process of finding, evaluating, implementing, and using information technology. She is also interested in how people use communication technologies in organizations and educational settings and how theories of traditional communication translate into the electronic environment.
As an AIS Distinguished Member—Cum Laude—she received the Sandra Slaughter Service Award, and in 2017, AIS presented Dr. Brown with the AIS Fellow Award. She also served as the Conference Chair for Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) 2022.
Dr. Brown will serve as the 14th editor-in-chief of MISQ since its establishment in 1977. In a statement to MISQ, she is “honored and humbled” to be among a group of “absolutely phenomenal academics and scholars in the discipline... I have a great deal of respect for the previous editors and truly appreciate all they have done to make MISQ what it is today.” Dr. Brown aims to focus on improving journal operations and outreach to all members of the field.  She will apply her experience as a department head to further develop opportunities to “mentor junior faculty and doctoral students, as well as new board members” and to work toward getting “everyone on an even playing field.” To do so, Dr. Brown says she will keep an “open door” for the community.
Dr. Brown replaces Dr. Andrew Burton-Jones as Editor-in-Chief and they will be working together to achieve a smooth transition.   |
