Belonging to the Association for Information Systems as a member is one of the best ways for an IS scholar to stay up to date with advancements in the field. With your AIS membership, you are eligible to get involved within the AIS Special Interest Groups, Chapters, and Colleges to further strengthen your professional network.  Together, the three group types, known collectively as AIS Communities, are a unique place for members to find support and encouragement from peers while gaining access to a variety of leadership opportunities, specialized conferences, and professional connections.
Special Interest Groups (SIGs)Thirty-eight Special Interest Groups, also known as SIGs, provide AIS members with a way to connect with like-minded individuals to affect or produce solutions within a specific knowledge area. SIGs are dedicated to researching, developing, and disseminating knowledge based on vast experiences of specific topics in the management and organization of IS.
ChaptersRegional and national AIS chapters facilitate additional networking and support for members in nearly 100 countries worldwide. While each of the 46 chapters offer a variety of services, many also host conferences and workshops and publish journals. Review the full list of AIS chapters to see if there is a group in your area.
CollegesAIS colleges are communities of colleagues with shared characteristics such as the AIS Women’s Network College, the Doctoral Student College, and the College of Academic Leadership (for administrators). These groups are dedicated to connecting peers help one another excel in their professional endeavors.
The AIS Women’s Network College as well as many of the SIGs have special programs to support Doctoral Students such as discounted memberships, reduced workshop registrations, and student ambassadorships. A complete list of these resources have been compiled on the Doctoral Student College website.
AIS Communities contribute to the field of information systems by catering to specialized areas of study, geographic locations, and similar professional interests. The Outstanding Community designation celebrates the exceptional work of AIS Communities and their contributions toward supporting the mission of AIS through the advancement of knowledge and the promotion of excellence in the practice and study of information systems. Leaders of AIS Communities must submit an Annual Report by March 1, 2023 to be considered for the AIS Outstanding Community designation.
