The Association for Information Systems is proud to announce that its membership has reached an all-time high of more than 5,000 members for the first time in the organization’s 28 year history. AIS has been the premier association for those in the field of information systems and serving our academic members and society.

Despite the challenges of the global pandemic with travel and health considerations, constrained academic budgets, and ever-evolving research needs, the association has seen promising growth over the past three years, reaffirming our members’ commitments to their profession.

“Our 5,000 + members recognize the fact that AIS fulfills their need for exceptional research sources, member services and engagement within the association,” said AIS President Suprateek Sarker. “We look forward to the evolution of the association to attain greater heights and to learning more about how we can continue to serve our members in the future.”

Recently, advances in the AIS eLibrary and expanded member benefits have helped elevate the association by providing more value to its members around the globe. The Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS), the flagship journal of AIS, has helped lead the charge in elevating innovative research while becoming more accessible for researchers around the globe. The journal features more than 750 articles that have been downloaded more than 670,000 times in its history.

Within the past five years, AIS has also added many new Special Interest Groups (SIGs) based on specialized areas of study and location-based chapters to better support members. There are now 38 SIGs and 49 chapters meeting around the world.

As the association has grown, exciting opportunities have been presented to members. Most notable is the new Entrepreneurial Innovation Fellowship in partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. The fellowship provides funds to support a small cohort of PhD students at $5,000 per year per student in addition to funds to assist in covering travel expenses to AIS conferences and the opportunity to participate in an annual workshop on entrepreneurship and IS research.

“The milestone of 5,000 members, while celebrated now, is truly a testament to the impact of our volunteers who have worked tirelessly on behalf of the association since its early beginnings,” said Sarker. “As we continue to grow, we appreciatively acknowledge the impact each individual has on making our field a success.”
