Membership Dues may be Eligible for a Tax Deduction as an Educator Expense

In applicable countries with allowable tax code, AIS members who pay for their membership with their own funds are now able to claim their membership receipt as an educational expense.

“AIS leadership continues to add benefits to all members of the IS community and this tax deduction option helps both teaching and research faculty,” said Vice President of Education, Jan Marco Leimeister.

Language has been added to the AIS membership receipt which shows the use of an AIS membership for education and pedagogy resources. If a member’s country of employment’s tax codes allows and they qualify as an eligible educator, their AIS membership may be considered an Educator Expense Deduction if they are not reimbursed by their institution.

A membership in the Association for Information Systems may be considered a qualified expense if they use their membership to access members-only professional development resources including curricula, syllabi, schedules and more.
