At its March meeting,
the AIS Council approved the nomination of
Professor Suprateek Sarker as the next editor-in-chief for the Journal of
the Association for Information Systems (JAIS).  His term will
begin on September 1, 2013.  He was
nominated by a search committee, which consisted of Shirley Gregor, Australian National University, Ron Weber, Monash University,
David Avison, ESSEC, Joey George, Iowa State University, Matti Rossi, Helsinki School of Economics, and Kalle Lyytinen (chair), Case Western Reserve University. The search committee reviewed the
nominations of nearly twenty candidates during the process, and in the last
round interviewed several extremely strong candidates.
"Although there were many strong candidates for the position, Suprateek's vision for the future of the journal along with his professional experience and research credentials make him the perfect fit for the job," says Kalle Lyytinen, AIS vice president of publications. "The committee is fully behind him, and we are excited to see the progress of his work!"
 During his tenure, Dr.
Sarker wants to improve the high-quality standing of the journal, expand its
global reach, and serve all IS's research communities.  The editorial board
and selection committee is looking forward to working together with Dr. Sarker
in strengthening JAIS as it continues to serve as an important publication in
the global information systems community.
 Suprateek Sarker is
currently the Philip Kays Professor of Information Systems at Washington State
University, Pullman, USA. He is also a visiting professor at Royal Holloway,
University of London, UK, and at Aalto University, Finland. He received his
Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati where he not only learned how to
conduct qualitative studies, but also to appreciate the value
of pluralism with respect to research approaches.
Suprateek's work has been published in several top
journals in the discipline. He serves as (or has served as) a
senior editor for the MIS Quarterly, as editor-in-chief for Journal
of IT Cases & Applications Research (JITCAR), as a special issue
co-editor for the European Journal of Information Systems, and as
an editorial board member for the Journal of the AIS, the Journal of
MIS, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, IT & People, and
the Journal of IT for Development. He is a past co-recipient (with
Professor Sundeep Sahay) of the Stafford Beer Medal from the OR Society
(United Kingdom) for a paper on virtual teamwork that was published in the
European Journal of Information Systems. |
