Qualitative comparative analysis (QCA), a set-theoretic method to build a configurational theory, is drawing increasing attention of researchers to its capability to investigate the complex phenomena. QCA developed by Charles Ragin (1987) integrates the strengths of both case-oriented qualitative methods and variable-oriented quantitative methods, and can be applicable for small, medium, or large data. This workshop will foster discussion about how QCA can help IS researchers build novel, richer theories.

Social media such as Twitter, Reddit, and Facebook, have become de facto global communication channels to disseminate news, entertainment, and one’s self-revelations. However, though these organizations provide real-time data feeds that may be utilized in many ways, how does one actually go about using these data? This workshop will provide hands-on instruction regarding the collection, processing, and analysis of these data using Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools, Topic Modeling Techniques, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

The goal of the Junior Faculty Consortium is to offer all participants insights into their academic career that can help them be valuable, marketable, and successful in their career from their own perspective, and that of their university and the academy. Consortium participants are AIS members beginning their first through fourth year in an academic position in the Fall of 2018. The Junior Faculty Consortium theme will be “Finding Balance as you prepare for Tenure".

Students need to build solutions that work and develop the skills needed for the industry. With a low-code platform like Mendix, students build real world working solutions that solve business problems within one semester. In addition, they’ll learn a solution and skills that are highly sought after in the industry by being both business and technology savvy and building a portfolio of fully developed solutions.

This workshop is designed to give professors hands-on experience with the leading innovative low-code solution. Professors will build their own application and learn how the platform enhances their classroom learning objectives. They will learn how the tool can be applied to teaching subjects such as database structures and UML diagrams, business logic, user interface, design and agile development principles. Professors are welcome to attend the workshop and bring their own laptops to follow the activities and build their very own application.

This workshop intends led by the AIS SIG culture intends to help researchers and doctoral students to conduct research and publications related to culture in IS. Culture in IS including national cultures, corporate culture, cultural industries. In addition, methodological questions on how to measure cultural dimensions of IS will be debated during the workshop. Submission format include extended abstracts, development papers or full papers.

Doctoral Student Corner

The doctoral student corner is a dedicated space for doctoral students attending the conference to orient them to the AMCIS experience and to connect them to other students in the field. This space will be available throughout the conference to provide a place for doctoral students to network and relax between conference events. We encourage doctoral students of all levels to register for this free ancillary event when registering for AMCIS 2018.
