Outreach Practice Publication Award
About the Award
The AIS Outreach Practice Publication Award was created to recognize members who successfully transfer research to practitioner audiences in practice-based publications.
Qualifications for the Award
The publication can be in any medium in the public domain but not in an IS journal, conference proceedings, thesis or other academic compilation. The publication selected for the award must be publically available with evidence that it has influenced practitioner or decision makers in the public or private sectors and/or researchers in disciplines greatly different from IS. The winner of the Outreach Practice Publication Award will be determined by a volunteer committee of AIS members representing a variety of stakeholders in the community, as appointed by the VP of Communications.
2016 Award Winner
Dr. Yves Pigneur of the University of Lausanne won the inaugural AIS Outreach Practice Publication Award, which was presented at ICIS 2016 in Dublin, Ireland.
Pigneur has been a professor in Information Systems at the University of Lausanne since 1984. Yves and Alex Osterwalder (his PhD student) invented the Business Model Canvas and in 2010 authored the international bestseller Business Model Generation and more recently Value Proposition Design. These books influence significantly the practice of management, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The business model canvas has become the most popular method of strategic planning. Not surprisingly, he is a frequent keynote speaker and has given guest lectures in top universities across the globe.
Business Model Generation has sold over a million copies and has been translated into 40 languages. It has been ranked #1 on the Amazon Best Sellers list in Business Management, and it has appeared on several best reading lists, including "8 Books Stanford MBAs Recommend You Read.” Over 400 universities have adopted Business Model Generation for at least one course. The innovative design of the book has also influenced the layout of many management books.
