Devina Chaturvedi
Deakin University
Burwood, Australia
Devina Chaturvedi is a doctoral student in Information Systems and Business Analytics at Deakin University. Her research blends academic rigor with practical relevance, focusing on the strategic and business value of IT investments, particularly in the
context of emerging economies. Her work has been featured in premier conference proceedings such as ICIS and ECIS, earning nominations for Best Student Paper (ICIS 2024) and Best Conference Paper (ICIS 2023). Prior to her doctoral studies, she
was a Research Associate at the Indian School of Business and previously worked in climate and sustainability consulting at KPMG India. Deeply committed to the Information Systems community, Devina actively reviews for leading conferences, volunteers
at academic events, and participates in initiatives that promote academic collaboration and professional growth.
1. Why did you originally join AIS, and what has kept you involved?
I originally joined AIS to connect with a global community of IS scholars. As a new researcher, I saw it as a gateway to engage with leading academics, access high-quality research, and stay attuned to emerging trends. What has kept me involved
is the opportunity not just to participate, but to grow through service. Reviewing for AIS conferences and volunteering at AIS events have enabled me to learn from peers, deepen my understanding of the research process, and contribute
meaningfully to the community. These experiences have been as formative as any formal academic training.
2. What's a recent professional accomplishment you're proud of?
Two of my papers were nominated at the International Conference on Information Systems for Best Conference Paper in 2023 and Best Student Paper in 2024. These recognitions were both humbling and encouraging. More than accolades, they affirmed that the questions I am exploring, around how firms derive strategic and business value from IT, are meaningful to the IS community. I am grateful for the mentorship and collaboration that have shaped this work, and for the opportunity to contribute to conversations that connect rigorous research with real-world relevance. 3. What's the best career advice you've ever received?
The best career advice I have received came from Professor Abhishek Kathuria, Professor Prasanna Karhade, and Professor Mariana G. Andrade-Rojas: to think not in terms of individual projects, but programs; not in terms of single papers, but
streams of knowledge; and not in terms of immediate results, but long-term impact. Their guidance, that impactful research is about charting a thoughtful, programmatic roadmap with perseverance and patience, rather than focusing solely
on individual outputs, continues to shape how I approach every research endeavor.
4. What's a hidden talent, interesting hobby, or fun fact you'd like to share about yourself?
Here are three fun facts about me: two are true, and one I wish were true:
1. I am very fond of dancing and have trained in styles like Kathak, Jazz Funk, and Contemporary. 2. I can recite the entire script of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban from memory. 3. I am drawn to storytelling and poetry, and often find myself chasing the rhythm of a well-told tale or a perfectly placed line, even in academic papers. (Feel free to guess which one I am still working on!) |
