25th President of AIS: Alan DennisProfessor Alan Dennis teaches Information Systems and holds the John T. Chambers Chair of Internet Systems in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. Professor Dennis achieved his BS in Computer Science from Acadia University in 1982. Following this, he attended Queen’s University for his MBA and finished his PhD in Business Administration from the University of Arizona in 1991. Professor Dennis has been a part of the IS community for decades and has a long list of awards, recognitions, and professional experience to show for it. Professor Dennis focuses his research on fake news via social media, AI agents, team collaboration, and the internet. He has written over 150 research papers and won numerous awards for theoretical and applied research. His work can be found in academic journals (MISQ, ISR, JMIS) along with popular press such as the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, the Atlantic, South Africa’s Sowetan Live, Chile’s El Mercurio, and more. Professor Dennis is the Editor in Chief of AIS Transactions on Replication Research. He teaches on the topics of research methods, data communications, and networking. He has written four books, two on data communications and two on systems analysis and design. His textbook on data communication, published by John Wiley & Sons, has been the leading textbook on the market since 1995 and translated into other languages. Professor Dennis was awarded the Best Paper in AIS Transactions on Human Computer Interaction in 2015, the Kelley Research Award Full Rank in 2002 and 2014, the AIS Best Social Informatics Paper in 2014, and many more. He received the AIS Fellow Award in 2012 and the AIS Award for Outstanding Contribution to IS Education in 2014. Both awards highlight the significant contributions Professor Dennis has made to the IS community and his commitment to continue. Professor Dennis served as the Vice President for Conferences for three years, President Elect (2018-2019), and President (2019-2020). He was essential during his presidency as many transitions and pivots were necessary during 2020. Outside of his academic work, Professor Dennis is the Co-Founder of NameInsights.com (2015-Present), Co-Founder of Courseload, Inc. (2005-2015), Co-Founder of TCBWorks (1995-1997), and a Program Analyst for the Government of Price Edward Island, Charlottetown (1977). He also worked with Cisco Systems’ Networking Academy to develop teaching materials used by the Networking Academy instructors in more than 150 countries. |
