The Association for Information Systems welcomes the Middle East and North Africa Chapter to the ranks of AIS Communities after receiving approval from the AIS Council in June. By approving MENA-AIS, AIS will be able to serve the research and educational interests of a greater number of international members.

The newest chapter is led by Antoine Harfouche from Universite Paris Ouest – Nenterra La Defense. MENA-AIS will serve members in countries around the MENA region. The chapter is the premier academic association for individuals and organizations who lead the research, teaching, practice, and study of information systems, e-business, e-commerce, and e-Marketing in the MENA region.

“The AIS Council is extremely excited to establish the MENA-AIS chapter in our association,” said Ryan Wright, VP of Membership for AIS. “One important benefit of MENA-AIS is the strong connection with AIS members around the Mediterranean such as Italian, French, Greek, Lebanese, and Cypriot communities. We are excited to see where this connected community takes AIS and are incredibly thankful for the work and dedication Antoine Harfouche, Marco de Marco and other chapter members have put forth so far.”

Other members of MENA-AIS’s leadership team include Abbas Tarhini  from Lebanon as President Elect, Kathy Shen from UAE as vice president for research, Murizio Cavallari from Italy as vice president for conferences,  Wadi Tahri from Morocco and Selwa Elfirdoussi from Morocco as secretary, Nizar Raissi from KSA as treasurer, Moufida Sadok from Tunisia,  Bessem Boubaker from KSA, Sherif Kamel from Egypt, Mohamad Akoum and Hafiz Imtiaz Ahmad from UAE, Youcef Baghdadi from Oman, Nadia Tebourbi from Tunisia, Sélim Mekdissi, Amal Dabbous, Nada Mallah Boustany and Charbel Chedrawi from Lebanon, are also founding members of the chapter.

The MENA-AIS Chapter serves three strategic goals:  Lead and promote excellence in information systems education, lead and promote excellence in information systems scholarship, and cultivate a community by providing services and products to meet the diverse needs of members and related communities.
