More than 10 leaders from across the AIS community have come together to form the Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Applications (SIG AIAA). Approved by AIS Council in mid-March, SIG AIAA will globally promote and facilitate the creation, presentation and publication of research examining all facets of artificial intelligence and autonomous applications, and will strive to be the global leader in linking and integrating AI and autonomous applications in research practice.

Daniel O’Leary will serve as the president of SIG AIAA with support from Omar El Sawy as vice president, Jae Kyu Lee as secretary, and Brad Trinkle as treasurer, with additional support from Ann Majchrzak, Jan Vanthienen, Christopher Westland, Joe Clark, Henry Kim and Clyde Holsapple.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for those in our community who are currently involved in artificial intelligence and autonomous applications to get more involved with AIS,” said Jason Thatcher, AIS President. “Finding a group of like-minded colleagues to share ideas and experiences with will help to strengthen not only individual research, but also the entire field of IS.”

The activities of SIG AIAA include but are not limited to:

  • Providing a forum for sharing research with those concerned with all aspects of AI and Autonomous Applications;
  • Providing an opportunity for the exchange of ideas with member counterparts;
  • Conducting programs, conferences, and workshops to encourage networking among researchers and practitioners and to facilitate the sharing of research and trends in AI and Autonomous Applications;
  • Providing a means for critical examination of the problems and opportunities associated with information systems in the designated area of research;
  • Sponsoring tracks in major AIS conferences to provide additional outlets to encourage research; and
  • Identifying or proposing special issues or sections AI and autonomous applications in a wide variety of journals.
