AIS Welcomes Six New Council Members

The Association for Information Systems is pleased to welcome six new council members effective September 1, 2025.

Michel Aivtal begins his three- year term as the newly elected AIS VP Publications.  Marie-Claude Boudreau begins her three-year term as the newly elected AIS VP Conferences.  Heiko Gewald joins AIS Council as the ICIS Representative, after co-hosting a fantastic ICIS 2024 in Bangkok. Michael Chau also joins AIS Council as the newly elected VP Region 3 Representative. Jens Dibbern is beginning his term as the new VP Member Services and Chapters.   

September 1 also involves the annual new roles of the elected AIS Presidents with Dorothy Leidner, University of Virginia, beginning her role as the association's 31st AIS President. Andrew Burton-Jones, The University of Queensland, has become the Immediate Past President of the AIS Council. We extend our sincere welcome to Jan vom Brocke, University of Münster, who begins his term as the Association’s President-Elect.  All three Presidents will serve on the AIS Council as well as on the AIS Leadership Team.   Nancy Pouloudi, Athens University of Economics and Business, concludes her term as Immediate Past-President and has transitioned to the AIS Member-at-Large position on Council. Under her tenure, Pouloudi enhanced the efficiency and financial sustainability of AIS activities and strengthened the organization’s global reputation. She championed inclusivity, fostered greater engagement within the community, and positioned AIS to thrive in the evolving digital landscape. During her term as President, AIS established the Industry Advisory Board and two new Member Codes of Conduct. We extend our gratitude for her hard work and the lasting impact of her leadership.

Jan vom Brocke

Jan vom Brocke

Jan is an AIS Fellow with over 20 years of experience developing academic institutions. He is the Head of the Information Systems Department at the University of Münster and Director of ERCIS, leading collaborations with 100+ research and industry partners across Europe, the Americas, and the Asia-Pacific. He also holds positions as Honorary Distinguished Professor at Maynooth University in Ireland and Academic Research Fellow at the MIT Center for Information Systems Research. His globally impactful work includes widely cited publications in top journals, teaching in over 20 countries, and securing more than $60 million in public and private funding.

Michel Avital

Michel is a Professor of Digitalization at Copenhagen Business School, Denmark. He previously held faculty positions at the University of Amsterdam and Case Western Reserve University. An advocate of openness and cross-boundary collaboration, Michel’s research explores how digital innovation ecosystems shape organizational practices. He has published over 100 articles on the development and impact of emerging technologies and serves in leadership roles across journals and conferences. He also collaborates with start-ups, enterprises, and government agencies to harness emerging technologies for innovation and sustainable growth.

Marie-Claude Boudreau

Marie-Claude Boudreau

Marie is an Associate Professor of MIS at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, where she served as MIS Department Head from 2012 to 2023. Her research examines how information systems—such as integrated and open-source software—drive organizational change and support sustainability (Green IS). She has led interdisciplinary collaborations and secured multiple research grants in these areas. Her work appears in MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Organization Science, and the Journal of the AIS.

Jens Dibbern

Jens Dibbern

Since 2009, Jens has been a Professor of Information Systems at the University of Bern, Switzerland. He has served as Associate Editor for MIS Quarterly and Department Editor for JAIS and JSIS, as well as in leadership roles at ICIS and Wirtschaftsinformatik. He also served two terms as President of the Swiss Chapter of AIS, where he helped strengthen the local IS academic network and launched the International Conference on Information Systems Sourcing (ICOIS). His research focuses on IT services management, digital ventures, and human-AI interaction.

Michael Chau

Michael is a Full Professor of Innovation and Information Management at the HKU Business School, University of Hong Kong. His research lies at the intersection of information systems, computer science, business analytics, and information science, focusing on data, text, and web mining applications. He has published over 80 refereed journal papers and serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Information Management and Senior Editor of MIS Quarterly. In 2016, he received the AIS Sandra Slaughter Service Award.

Heiko Gewald

Heiko Gewald is research professor of Information Management at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences in Germany and Director of the Institute for Digital Innovation (IDI). He holds an MSc in Business Administration from University of Bamberg, an EMBSc from Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh and a PhD in Information Systems from Goethe University Frankfurt. He is an Honorary Visiting Professor at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia.

Heiko was conference co-chair of ICIS 2024 in Bangkok.
