The Association for Information Systems, supported by the generosity of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, is excited to offer a third cohort of the AIS Entrepreneurial Innovation Fellowship (EIF) for PhD students studying the intersection of innovation, entrepreneurship, and information systems.

The fellowship will engage a selection of PhD students studying topics that build on entrepreneurial-focused IS research streams (e.g. examining social media, metaverse, 5G chatbots, FinTech, digital platform ecosystems, crowdfunding, and more). Applications for the 2024-2025 cohort of the AIS Entrepreneurial Innovation Fellowship program will be accepted beginning in early September.
The cohort fellowship includes:

  • Funds to support a select number of PhD students focused on entrepreneurship research at $5,000 USD per year per student.
  • Funds to assist in covering some of the travel expenses to AIS conferences to present, discuss, and collaborate on research.
  • Opportunity to participate/host/present your work in an annual workshop/seminar on entrepreneurship and IS research.

During each iteration of the program, cohort members, carefully selected for their research's practical implications for management practice, institutional change, societal insights, and scholarly impact, engage in workshops on entrepreneurship and IS research.

The upcoming AIS Entrepreneurial Innovation Fellowship Symposium, serving as the capstone for the program’s second cohort, offers prospective applicants an opportunity to learn more about this fellowship opportunity. The session will feature presentations from members of the second EIF cohort:

  • Muftawu Dzang Alhassan, a third year GEM PhD scholar in Business Management and Administration at the University of Stellenbosch Business School, South Africa
  • Charis Asante-Agyei, an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at Lewis & Clark College who recently graduated from Syracuse University in the United States.
  • Ann-Katrin Eicke, an Assistant Professor at LMU Munich who recently graduated from the University of Münster in Germany.
  • Ton Nu Huong Giang Hoang, a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Information Systems and Analytics at the National University of Singapore.
  • Ferdinand Mittermeier, a PhD Candidate and Research Associate at the Chair of Information Systems Management Group at the Otto-Friedrich-University Bamberg in Germany and a returning EI Fellow.
  • Tanguy Tresor Sindihebura, a PhD Candidate and data scientist in the Business School-Entrepreneurship Marketing and Management Department at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China and a returning EI Fellow.

After short presentations by each of the Fellows, the program’s Faculty Lead Deborah Soule, will facilitate a period for questions and the exchange of ideas. Questions about the third cohort application will be allowed during this time, as well.

The AIS Entrepreneurial Innovation Fellowship Symposium will be held via Zoom on September 12, 2024 (9:00 -10:30 am Eastern / 1:00 – 2:30 pm UTC). Please RSVP for the AIS Entrepreneurial Innovation Fellowship Symposium here.

A growing collection of working papers generated through the program is accessible for open access in the AIS eLibrary. This valuable resource contributes to the dissemination of knowledge and insights at the intersection of entrepreneurship and information systems research.
