About SIG Health

The mission of the Special Interest Group on IT in Health Care (SIG Health) is to support health-IS research, education, and career development in a manner that is inclusive of diverse research methodologies and topic areas, to interact productively with allied disciplines, and to promote high professional standards of ethics and collegiality. 

Legacy of Excellence

Dedicated to serving the AIS community and connecting researchers worldwide, SIG Health has been the recipient of the AIS Outstanding SIG awards for nine consecutive years from 2014 to 2023.

Engage: Key Activities and Events

SIG Health members benefit from a range of activities designed to share and advance research ideas, including:

• Annual Health Information Technology Symposium (HITS): Each year, as a pre-workshop to one of our major conferences, we host a symposium that provides opportunities for researchers to round-robin share their work-in-progress and develop new relationships with coauthors. We welcome students and provide opportunities for scholarships to attend our event. In addition, keynote panels and presenters discuss poignant issues in industry and for the development of academics. In 2023, invited six women of color from the Health IS field to share their professional challenges and growth. In 2024, we look forward to presenting topics on digital resources and technological development for the aging society. Look out for the next Call for Papers in September 2024!
• Pre-AMCIS HIT Track: The AMCIS 2023 track saw 27 accepted research presentations from outstanding researchers. The interactive format provides significant feedback to authors with promising early-stage work.
• Best Paper Awards: SIG-Health again sponsored a Best Published Paper Award, awarding Junior and Senior Researcher category recipients as well as Meritorious Mentions.
• Conference Tracks: SIG Health organizes and supports tracks at major IS conferences – AMCIS, ICIS, ECIS, and PACIS. We are proud to hosts multiple tracks at each conference. At AMCIS 2024, SIG Health will sponsor eight mini-tracks, including "Digital Resources for the Aging Society" and "Digital Transformation in Healthcare."
