AIS 2023 Council Election Results

Thanks to all AIS members for our record-breaking participation in the 2023 AIS Council Elections. The AIS Secretary and Leadership Team are pleased to announce the following candidates, who have been elected by the membership and will take office on September 1, 2023:

Andrew Burton-Jones, The University of Queensland (Australia), has been elected to the position of President-Elect. Burton-Jones co-leads a university-wide Graduate Certificate Program in Digital Health. His research focuses on the effective use of IT and analyse and design methods. Burton-Jones research has been awarded for its benefit for the health system in Queensland, Australia. He was Region 1 Representative on the AIS Council and a member of the AIS Region 3 Board. Burton-Jones serves on the Editorial Boards of MIS Quarterly (MISQ), Information Systems Research (ISR), Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS), and Information & Organization (I&O). He completed his term this year as Editor-in-Chief of MIS Quarterly (2021-2023). He is the recipient of the AIS Technology Vision Award and the AIS Doctoral Student College Faculty Mentor Award.

Manju Ahuja has been elected as Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Ahuja is currently Frasier Family Chair of Information Systems at the University of Louisville, USA. Her research has focused on technology-enabled collaborations, Future of Work, the impact of IT on work-life balance, and the participation of women in STEM careers. Ahuja has served as Senior Editor at MIS Quarterly (MISQ), Information Systems Research (ISR), and Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS). She was recognized as an AIS Fellow in 2021. She has served in a variety of AIS volunteer roles including previous ICIS Junior Faculty Consortium Co-Chair, and ICIS Mid-Career Workshop Co-Chair, including co-Program Chair ICIS 2025. She also actively engaged with the AIS Women’s College with panels and events. 

Kevin Scheibe has been elected Vice President of Region 1. Scheibe is the Union Pacific Professor of Information Systems, Professor of Information Systems and Business Analytics, and Chair of the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics in the Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University. His research interests include business analytics, IT privacy and security, supply chain risk, spatial decision support systems, wireless telecommunications, and IT outsourcing. Scheibe has published in journals such as Decision Sciences Journal (DSJ), Journal of Business Analytics (JBA), and Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS). He currently is an Associate Editor for the Decision Sciences Journal (DSJ). Scheibe has served as the President-elect, President, and Immediate Past-President of the MWAIS Chapter in 2015, 2016, and 2017. In 2022, he was one of the program co-chairs for AMCIS 2022 in Minneapolis.

Pär Ågerfalk has been elected Vice President of Region 2. He is Professor at Uppsala University, Sweden, where he holds the Chair in Information Systems. Ågerfalk is an AIS Fellow Award recipient, an AIS Distinguished Member Cum Laude and a member of the AIS College of Senior Scholars. Internationally recognized for his work on open-source software and distributed agile development, his research addresses various aspects of the orchestration of digital practices. He currently focuses on digital innovation, digital agency, sustainable development, and digital health practices. Ågerfalk has published in leading journals, including MIS Quarterly (MISQ) Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS), and others. He was, until recently, Editor-in-Chief of EJIS and is currently a JIT editorial board member. He is a former Dean of the Swedish National Research School of Management and Information Technology, Chair of the Swedish Information Systems Academy, and founding Chair of the AIS Special Interest Group on Pragmatist IS Research (SIGPrag).
