Call for Nominations: Editor-in-Chief of the Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS)

Deadline for Nominations: December 31, 2022

Deadline Extension: January 27, 2023

The term of Fred Niederman as Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS) expires June 30, 2023. We are in the process of seeking his replacement.

CAIS is one of two flagship journals of the AIS. It has a proud tradition of publishing novel, original and groundbreaking research, methodological essays and guidelines, important lively debates about research practices, and is also the only dedicated AIS outlet that publishes matters and studies related to IS pedagogy. CAIS fosters the free flow of ideas within the IS community; its emphasis is on originality, importance, and cogency of ideas; it also provides an outlet for subjects falling outside the focus of many traditional academic journals including:

  1. Original, novel research papers including papers making empirical and/or theoretical contributions.
  2. Tutorials on novel technologies, methodologies or state of the art concepts.
  3. Commentaries, opinions and debates.
  4. Education and pedagogical scholarship in information systems.
  5. History and “in their own words” features regarding personal experiences in the IS field
  6. Panel and workshop reports from leading AIS conferences.

More information is available at CAIS webpage at https://aisel.aisnet.org/cais/

Selected candidates will be interviewed by Zoom or equivalent in December or January, if possible. A single nominee will be proposed by this committee to the AIS Council for consideration at their March 2023 meeting. All AIS members are invited to nominate candidate(s).  Candidates are very much encouraged to self-nominate.  Preference is granted to candidates with a history of supporting the journal through publications and/or participating in the review process.

Qualifications for the EIC position include:

  1. Demonstrated record of research in the field.
  2. Previous editorial experience, ideally at the level of final decision making on submissions
  3. Dedication and enthusiasm for CAIS in shaping it as a leading scholarly outlet for original and groundbreaking research, methodological essays and guidelines, important lively debates about research practices in the IS field.
  4. Ability to appreciate and encourage a broad agenda in terms of content, method, and viewpoints
  5. Ability to effectively and efficiently manage the editorial process and electronic journal publishing and marketing.
  6. Commitment to the EIC workload.
  7. Support from the candidate's institution.

Please submit nominations at the AIS website https://aisnet.org/page/CallforNomEICofCAIS including a brief statement of the candidate's qualifications and upload a resume or curriculum vitae no later than January 27, 2023. Self-nominations are welcome.
