AIS Past President and Senior Scholar, Helmut Krcmar was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit by Bavaria’s Minister of Science, Bernd Sibler, in June 2021. The Federal Cross of Merit, also known as The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, is the highest recognition an individual can receive from the Federal Republic of Germany. The award, established in 1951, is awarded to German and foreign nationals alike for their contributions to Germany.
Krcmar was recognized as an essential, early developer of digitalization and applauded for realizing its potential to transform our society. Prior to his retirement in 2020, Krcmar worked in the field of IS for decades and was committed to passing down his expertise to the doctoral candidates he mentored. He is widely cited by other researchers and wrote a textbook, “Information Management,” that is standard within the field of IS. Krcmar has been involved with AIS since its inception in 1995. He has held multiple positions within the association and is a founding member of the Germany Chapter of AIS. Krcmar taught at the Technical University of Munich in the Department of Informatics and the TUM School of Management.
Please join us in congratulating Helmut Krcmar on this high recognition!
