Recent advances in health information technologies (HIT) have brought unprecedented opportunities for transforming healthcare services. Health information technologies such as wearable health monitors, telemedicine, big data analytics, and deep learning play a key role in enabling such transformations. Successfully leveraging these new technologies, however, is nontrivial. Healthcare systems are complex and providers often find technology implementation, assimilation, and process reconfiguration a major challenge. At the same time, an abundance of non-standard healthcare data being generated outside clinics, such as the growing number of patient support communities on the web and social media, have further complicated our understanding of healthcare.

No amount of advanced digitization, analytics, and empowered patients demanding healthcare services can transform the healthcare industry unless we address well-entrenched legacies such as physician-centered culture, regulatory culture and revenue models that separate payers from service recipients, social and clinical knowledge gaps among physicians and patients, and emotional character of service demands that clouds rational decision making.

The purpose of this workshop is to bring practitioners and innovators of healthcare to share their perspectives and provide us insight into both the challenges and opportunities. Speakers from eClinicalWorks, Stanford University, lifeIMAGE, Henry Ford Global Health, and other HIT innovators will be there.
