The Association for Information Systems is proud to introduce two new component groups (SIGs, Chapters, Colleges) to the growing ranks of AIS member benefits. Component groups allow for members to connect around identifiable research areas, geographic regions or positions, as well as help to advance the AIS mission.

SIG-BD

Big Data Driven Business Processes, also known as SIG-BD, will focus on the topics of data-driven business process in market analytics, risk analytics based on big data, intelligent business process management, and new models of enterprise architecture based on big data. The new SIG will put an accent on data-driven business processes and will see what impacts big data analysis can bring too shaping the enterprises' workflows and architectures.

Membership in SIG-BD will include access to industry partners for collecting and analyzing data across emerging industries as well as an annual pre-conference event before ICIS.

“My goal for the newly approved SIG-Big Data Driven Business Processes (SIG-BD) is to fully support them in their pursuit of research on data-driven business processes," said Julie Kendall, AIS Vice President of SIGs, Chapters, and Colleges. "This has become a very important area for all information systems researchers. This SIG is differentiated from many others in that it will strive to work with industry partners in shared data collection and research projects.”

The founders of SIG-BD are in a strong intellectual position to capitalize on working with novice researchers as well as established ones in this dynamic research area. SIG-BD will have an impact on AIS by offering more opportunities for research relationships with other AIS members, taking full advantage of the networking and resources available through AIS.”

AIS Lebanon Chapter (LAIS)

The Lebanese Association for Information Systems (LAIS) will serve the IS faculty in Lebanon through the advancement of knowledge and the promotion of excellence in the practice and study of information systems, e-business, e-commerce and e-Marketing. This chapter is the first academic information systems association of its kind in Lebanon and will provide members with a connection to other AIS chapters around the Mediterranean.

LAIS will offer its members a variety of resources, including adapted seminars, trainings and joint projects. Additionally, members will have access to the latest jobs from top Lebanese universities, as well as private placement services offered through the Lebanese Conference for Information Systems.

“Forming a Lebanese Chapter is an important step, and one that will help to foster the study of, and research into information systems in Region 2 of AIS (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) by offering synergy between several other AIS chapters already established in this complex and critical region,” said Kendall.
