The Special Interest Group (SIG) eMedia (SIG-eMedia) is advancing the knowledge of information management and systems in the wider field of electronic media, and the application of electronic media in other domains. SIG-eMedia covers several genres of media industries, such as television, publishing, digital games, radio, ubiquitous/ambient media, smart media, advertising, social media, motion pictures, 2D/3D graphics, online video, semantic media, web-media, media production, and the wider context of digital media. Thus the main goals of this SIG are to investigate:

  1. investigate IS&M in media industries
  2. investigation of media use in IS&M

SIG-eMedia is an open forum to bring together a community interested in electronic media such as researchers, educators, practitioners, and industry. The SIG-eMedia shall gather a scientific community around the theme of business information management and systems in the larger context of media and entertainment industries. The outcome of the SIG-eMedia shall be research activities and a structured approach towards information management & systems in media and entertainment industries. SIG-eMedia is established within the Association for Information Systems (AIS) and compromises a passionate group of individuals interested in developing activities and the future shape of electronic media and the exploration of their application areas. The SIG-eMedia was founded in 2014, and emerged from activities conducted by the International Ambient Media Association (AMEA), with which it will tightly cooperate.

SIG-eMedia is an open forum to bring together a community interested in electronic media such as researchers, educators, practitioners, and industry. We seek to:

  • Advance the discipline of information systems and management research in creative eMedia industries from a human, technical, business, and creative content creation angle;
  • Creation of domain knowledge by attracting a critical mass of interested people to develop new methods, tools, techniques, processes, and human centered methods to applied in eMedia industries;
  • Collaborate on the research on the information management for novel services in evolving domains like ubiquitous media, ambient media and transmedia services.
  • Foster the dialogue between content creators and information system architects with the objective to integrate information management with creative processes.
  • Promote the use of cutting edge information management technology and making it accessible for new context of application.
