Prof. Jean-Henri Morin, Université de Genève
Prof. Yves Pigneur, Université de Lausanne, HEC Lausanne
The objective of this course is to offer PhD students in information systems (IS) and computer science (CS) the methodological foundation of design science research and design thinking. Combining theoretical (morning), hands-on (afternoon) sessions and two invited lectures, this course will provide PhD candidates with the required methodological foundation for their research. In
particular the course will address design science from various viewpoints: frameworks, paradigms, theory, processes, patterns, evaluation, ideation and rationale.
These design techniques will be used in creative ideation workshops, scientific literature reading and reviewing, writing research proposals and papers. The course is structured around two main aspects of design:
Design Science (Vaishnavi and Kuechler, 2008) as the methodological foundation of research in IS and CS
Design Thinking (Brown, 2008) as the creative foundation for innovation and design.
This year, the activity will include a Professor from Yonsei University, South Korea, Prof. Kil-Soo Suh, together with one or two of his PhD students.
This winter school is organized by the Doctoral Program of Computer Science of the CUSO - Conférence Universitaire de Suisse Occidentale and supported by CHAIS. PhD students from CUSO institutions will be asked to pay a registration fee of CHF 300, all other participants have to cover costs for travel and accomodation.
For registration, please use the CUSO website.
