Webinar: A Glorious and Not-So-Short History of the Information Systems Field

This webinar will discuss the 2012 Best Paper awarded by the Journal of the Association of Information Systems, "A Glorious and Not-So-Short History of the Information Systems Field,"  by Rudolf Hirschheim and Heinz Klein. The paper covers the past 40 years of the information systems discipline, and reflects on the intellectual contributions and the formation of the IS field. It also attempts to understand the field's origin and how it has evolved through the past four decades.  It also looks to the future and discusses potential future paths for the IS discipline, and ways in which the IS community can play a role in charting its own course.

Rudy Hirschheim is the Ourso Family Distinguished Professor of Information Systems at Louisiana State University. He has previously been on the faculties of the University of Houston, Templeton College (University of Oxford), London School of Economics (University of London), and McMaster University.  His Ph.D. is from the University of London. He was awarded honorary doctorates by the University of Oulu (Finland) in 2006, and by the University of Bern (Switzerland) in 2012. In 2007, he was made Fellow of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), and then given the AIS LEO Award in 2013. 

 

He was the founding editor of the Wiley Series in Information Systems. He is senior editor of Information and Organization and past senior editor of Journal of the Association for Information Systems. He is on the editorial boards of the journals: Information Systems Journal; Journal of Strategic Information Systems; Journal of MIS; Journal of Information Technology; Strategic Outsourcing. He has previously served on the boards of: MIS Quarterly; European Journal of Information Systems; and Wirtschaftsinformatik / Business & Information Systems Engineering.
